Mrs Gallagher-Simeons – Principal
Dear Families,
Once again, another Term has passed. The year 6’s are preparing for their transition to secondary education, and the rest of our students are preparing to move up a grade.
As a school we have had many successes and that is with our stable NAPLAN results, and the progress of our behaviour plan which I will explain below.
PBS
PBS stands for positive behaviour in schools. We started this program 2 years ago. It is recommended by the Education Department as it provides positive feedback to children for their herd work. We focus on navigating learning, embracing resilience, showing respect, and working responsibly. Teachers have collectively written a matrix of how that works in our school. Copies of hat matrix are available to parents if they drop into the office and ask. It deals with the expectations of behaviour in the classroom, and the playground. It encompasses each of the focus areas and how we hope to achieve them. Basically, more students are settled and doing their work in class with less disturbances.
Personal hygiene products
These free personal hygiene products will be placed in the sick room where all students that need them can access them. The ladies in the office will help any girls who needs to access these items.
Staffing
Next Term there will be some changes to staff. They will be as follows:
Room 4-Mrs Palacios is unwell and medically needs to take a Terms rest. Also, Mrs Crosling was injured at work and needs to frequent more treatment to return to school pain free, therefore she is out for Term 4. Room 4 will be replaced by an experienced teacher Mrs Williams who will work 4 days a week and to back that up, I will be teaching on Fridays. I am very experienced in Early Childhood and am looking forward to having teaching contact with the children.
Room 6- Mr Boon will be taking his Long Service Leave as the Department requires teachers to take their leave when it is due. His replacement will be Mr Fry who is a very experienced teacher and can replace Mr Boon easily.

Achievers WA
The start of next term marks one full year since we commenced Achievers Club WA at our school. The mentors work directly with our students on a Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:00. The mentors are professionals who volunteer their time to support our students in their education, confidence and help them set goals. They value empowerment, collaboration, perseverance and enjoyment. We are so thankful for their help towards our students. Achievers WA recommences on Saturday 12th October. Thank you to the families for their ongoing commitment. Please remember to notify Achievers if your child is unwell and unable to attend. We look forward to seeing some wonderful outcomes next term.

2024 Contributions
Thank you to all the families that have paid their 2024 Contributions, it is greatly appreciated as the funds received so far have supported your child’s education by enabling the school to purchase extra materials, services, and resources.
Although the school receives funding for the curriculum, it does not cover the extra learning materials which are sometimes funded by the teaching staff.
All voluntary contributions received are directed straight back into the classroom, further enriching your child’s educational opportunities. The more contributions we receive, the more we can offer the children – so every penny counts. It equates to $1.15 per week throughout the year.
We are able to offer an “Instalment Agreement” for those families who wish to pay their contributions through a payment plan.
Payments can be made via
- EFT
- Cash, or
- Directly deposited into the School Bank Account.
Account Name: East Butler Primary School
BSB: 066 058
Account No.: 10024364
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries regarding your contributions or other needs of your child.

Wonderchums
This term, Rooms 1, 2 and 3 have been exploring and learning about our emotions and how to manage them appropriately, through the Wonderchums program. We have been chosen as one of the few schools to trial Wonderchums as part of our school curriculum.
Wonderchums is a program that supports students to understand and control their emotions. Each week the class teacher introduces a new character which is associated with a different emotion, through stories, puppets, and interactive activities. Furthermore, the students are encouraged to engage with their grown-ups at home by using a QR code and puppets, which they take home each week. This promotes discussions with families and practising of the strategies at home.
The students are having lots of fun learning how to manage their emotions.
East Butler Primary School is one of only three schools in Western Australia to be participating in the Humanacy Co-Design Project. Our Kindergarten and Pre Primary classes are participating in the program which aims to link the home and classroom increasing caregiver to child engagement in relation to their learning. This program examines the primary influences in a child’s social emotional development and provides wonderful multimedia lessons and resources that revolve around characters called the “Wonderchums” through story, song and playful co-regulation and self-regulation activities. It has been wonderful to see Humsi, Gusto, Zuki and Onesie in our classrooms, writing postcards and sharing their adventures. They have been a wonderful help to our students sharing their learning with their families and talking about their emotions.

Sustainability
Check out our Year 6 Sustainability leaders who have been collecting worm juice from our worm farms to use on the gardens around the school. We hope all the nutrients in the concentrate will help our gardens flourish. Our next task is to use the compost that we have been tumbling from the students left over Crunch and Sip scraps.
Take a look here: Beginners composting: bokashi, worm farms and bins | WasteSorted to get started at home.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is available to all students every Tuesday and Friday from 8.00 am until 8.20 am in the Undercover Area next to the Canteen.
All students are welcome to come along, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Your Move
Your Move school – benefits of Your Move
We are a member of the Your Move Schools program.
Your Move encourages students and their families to get active by walking, scooting and riding to school. Making a small behavioural change a few times a week can result in huge benefits for your child and the community, including:
- Reduced congestion, travel times and parking problems around schools;
- Improved safety for everyone at drop-off and pick-up times;
- Reduced carbon dioxide emissions around the school;
- Lifelong improved health and emotional well-being due to instilling positive exercise habits at a young age;
- Improved concentration and academic performance;
- More sustainable and cost-effective transport outcomes, such as reducing the need for investment in parking that may only be utilised for a short period each day, and reduced road infrastructure maintenance costs.
We earn Your Move points by posting stories and photos of our active transport adventures on the website; these can translate into grants to fund active transport facilities and activities for the school and other rewards. If you’re interested in volunteering to be part of our school’s Your Move program, get in touch with our Your Move Champion Mrs Utley
