Mrs Gallagher – Principal
End of Term
Now that this Term is ending, I must commend all the students for their improved behaviour. This Term there have been many students getting classroom awards and being very proud to show their parents.
This Term the expectation has been for students to stay in their classroom and taking part in lessons. All the classes are settled, and children work steadily throughout the day. This is a fantastic outcome.
Our students
As you all know, the ongoing focus at our school is on the students. Everything we do has the students’ best interests at heart.
This is the time that I can say a big “thank you” to some services who work tirelessly for the children. They are:
Mr Matt Rooker our school Chaplain. Matt works with the emotional well-being of our students and staff. As the economy pinches families financially and affects the stability of their life routine, Matt is there for the children to talk about their worries about their families and their parents. He provides an amazing emotional outlet for these children and is constantly thinking of new ways of helping them.
Mrs Amanda Anzai works tirelessly with testing and educationally assessing children to help teachers understand where the students need help and makes suggestions of what will work to enrich their learning program.
To ‘No Limits Perth’ for their eager and organised distribution of breakfast and lunches for the children who don’t have any. They are a truly wonderful group of volunteers, and they have the care of children central to their operation and processes.
To “Sacred Heart College” for the catering students that send fresh sandwiches and fruit for our students.
To our P&C for all the parents who give up their time to meet and organise fun activities for the whole school. The children love being part of the activities they organise. They also work steadily to raise money to assist the school with purchase of items that will benefit the children. In the past they have purchased a café for the adventure playground, and a lovely wooden car for the Pre-Primary. All these things are well used and very loved by the children.
To our volunteers hearing reading, because they know the benefit of reading every day.
Our teachers who plan and assess programs of work and go that extra mile to help the children in their class. Also, their Education Assistants who work with individual students and help make the difference to their learning.
On behalf of all the staff and myself I would like to wish all the students a happy safe holiday to mark the end of Term One.

Miyawaki (Pocket) Forest
East Butler PS is so fortunate to have secured the opportunity for their very own Miyawaki (Pocket) Forest. Dr Grey from Murdoch University is assisting the Sustainability Team to ensure our compost is sufficient and ready for the planting of our trees in August. We are so excited!
The forest is filled with carefully selected species to grow quickly. Trees are so important to our environment for clean living as well as a home to many living things. It will also be a wonderful place for our students to enjoy.
Congratulations to the following students selected for our Sustainability Team and we commend you for your commitment to our environment.

Manager Corporate Services
Thank you to all the families that have paid their 2023 Contributions. These funds support your child’s education by enabling the school to purchase extra materials, services and resources. Although the school receives funding for the curriculum, it does not cover the extra learning materials purchased by the teaching staff.
All voluntary contributions received are directed straight back into the classroom, further enriching your child’s educational opportunities. The more contributions we receive, the more we can offer the children – so every penny counts. It equates to .86c per week throughout the year or $1.50 per week based on the school term days.
Payments can be made via
- EFT
- Cash, or
- Directly deposited into the School Bank Account.

Special News
Ellie the Elephant
We’d like to Welcome Ellie the Elephant back to East Butler. She’s been staying safe and healthy with her family.
Ellie wants to remind students to treat each other with kindness and be respectful - treating others how they want to be treated.
She has really big ears and that helps her listen to students’ thoughts, opinions and more importantly their feelings. Please remember that ‘feelings’ are a very natural part of being a human and there is not one feeling that is considered bad or in a negative light. Ellie’s hope is that the more we talk about those feelings, the more others can help students and the support team around them (families and friends), to deal with those very real emotions, and how to build resilience and be the best version of themself!
Please discuss the ‘Our helping hand of support’. The five trusted people we feel safe to talk to! If the first person the child tries, can’t listen (they may be too busy or not near), try the next person on their helping hand and keep on going until they find someone who can listen and help them with their feeling or concerns.
Ellie tokens, are for all the students using nice manners, displaying East Butler values like kindness and respect, or completing tasks.
I’d like to thank Ellie for coming to visit us again and we hope to see you again soon.
National Ride2School Day
On Friday 24th March it was National Ride to School Day. Ride2School Day is a nationwide program that encourages students to become physically active on their way to school. It was absolutely fantastic to see all of the students riding, walking and scooting to school wearing their helmets and paying close attention to the road rules. Lots of students went into the draw to win one of two prizes. Each prize consisted of a “Your Move” backpack, a drink bottle, slap band, pen, some stickers and temporary tattoos. Well done to all who got involved on National Ride2School Day and big congratulations to our lucky winners!

Harmony Day Room 6 and 11
Room 6 and 11 spent Harmony Day working together on a colouring in and then had some fun play time! What a great way to celebrate and meet new different people, working together to create something wonderful!

Breakfast Club
What a great start to the year! It has been so busy at breakfast club with so many happy smiling faces. Remember, Tuesday is toasties and Friday is spaghetti on toast. The gates open at 7.45am and last food is served at 8.05am. The students go to classes at 8.15am when the rest of the school gates open!
This year, free from all covid restrictions, the students are again learning to be responsible for their own dishes. After eating a delicious breakfast and drinking a nice cold Milo they have been washing, drying and stacking their own dishes. It was very exciting for some students as they had never washed dishes before! Matt is an amazing supervisor and instructor on how to wash just right and dry thoroughly.
We hope to see many more of you at breakfast club in the coming weeks!

Cyberbullying: what is it and how to get help
Cyberbullying is bullying that is done through the use of technology. For example, using the Internet, a mobile phone or a camera to hurt or embarrass someone is considered cyberbullying.
What does cyberbullying look like?
A cyberbully can be someone you know, or a stranger. They might send mean or hurtful text messages through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, or through sites where people can ask / answer questions.
Cyberbullying can also involve people sending photos and videos of you to others to try and embarrass or hurt you.
People spreading rumours about you via emails or social networking sites or text messages.
People trying to stop you from communicating with others.
People setting up fake profiles pretending to be you, or posting messages or status updates from your accounts.
How you can be safe from bullies online
Do not share private information like passwords, name and address, phone numbers with people you don’t know. This can also include sharing of photos of yourself, your friends and your family
Do not respond to messages when you are angry or hurt. Log out and stop messaging if you feel you are being harassed.
You can block, delete and report anyone who is harassing you online and on your mobile.
Find out how to report bullying and harassment on each of the different social networks that you use.
Keep a record of calls, messages, posts and emails that may be hurtful or harmful to you.
Set up the privacy options on your social networking sites like Facebook in a way you are comfortable with
